À propos
In terms of biodiversity, the remote region retains significant potential for fish reproduction.
The site represents an ecological complex that allows the expression of a heritage fauna and flora that is fully representative of the ecosystems subject to flooding.
At the landscape level, it is worth noting the presence of the Vitrimont forest, on the northern bank of the Meurthe River, in ecological connection with the site. A few woodlands, south of Damelevières, contribute to the mosaic of wooded areas around the Plain site.
The natural site of the remote du Plain in Damelevières, a former meander of the Meurthe, is home to a diversity of wetlands, including a forest of European interest.
A wetland is a space where water is significantly present for at least part of the year and where vegetation, where it exists, is characteristic.
This type of environment is of major interest in the water cycle. In particular, it performs the important functions of flood control and water purification.
On the ENS du Plain, the remote, the wet meadow, the alluvial forest, the ponds and the reed beds are the different habitats that make up the wetland.
The remoteness of the Plain is classified as a fishing reserve by prefectoral decree (fishing prohibited from 1 February to 30 April).
